ODESSA s/t tape (SS003)

the third official release from SISSTER SSOUND sees the first physical release from texas based instrumental black metalers ODESSA. forming in 2009 as a two piece and performing several live shows with a drum machine, they later added a live drummer to fill out the sound and round out the group. these are the first recordings as a three piece with the live drum line up. creating a sound that could fit easily alongside other ambient USBM bands, ODESSA cut their own path and remain sonically driving, speeding forward and coating their audience in a wave of darkness. guitars, bass, and drums. no keys, no synth, no bullshit.

the self titled cassette carries 5 songs in roughly 23 minutes and comes housed with a black on black cover, color insert card, and wrapped in a printed translucent vellum band (with all design, logoing and assembly by GIVE UP). limited first pressing of only 75, available HERE now.

RVEVV 'MMXI' tape (SS002)

after several digital releases, SISSTER SSOUND is pleased to present the first physical release from the UK's own RVEVV. featuring 6 tracks in just under 45 minutes, the MMXI tape starts with a slow burn before building into a crushing wall of mountainous drone. guitar driven and interspersed with minimal samples, flirting with mixes of both ambient and caustic noise, all while weaving a thread of the HOLY TERROR "sound" throughout.
cassettes come packaged in a custom cut, sealed, screen printed chipboard box with three separate insert cards, 1" buttons, and digital download code. designed, printed, and assembled by GIVE UP in line with with the RVEVV concept. produced in a limited edition of 60, with the first 20 available in alternative packaging by RVEVV himself. available HERE now.

maybe 2006, 2007? WILL TO LIVE was slated to do a full length on EULOGY and scott asked me to come up with something for a cover. his idea was for a digipak with the lettering/crest in silver foil (a little hard to read fully in the color version, but maybe more clear what would be silver in the B&W pic). the EULOGY deal fizzled and i think they ended up just giving the album away as a free download. a couple years later used the image for their last show poster. though they've been playing shows again now.

SOUTH SIDE SKATEPARK is the oldest and longest running indoor skatepark in houston. i did a bunch of design work for them over the years from tshirts to demo/contest posters to ads to decks. starting in probably 2003. these decks are the only things i held onto from any of that. did 2 more boards that i can recall as well.

INSTRUMENTAL was a texas based skateboard company that was around for several years in the early 2000s. i actually did 5 series of graphics for them, for a total of 15 boards other than the ones pictured here. these are the only ones i still have my hands on. hard to tell in the photos, but the graphics on these were printed once in silver, then the screens off-set and printed again in black. can't recall the year.

poster i did for the houston date of the CONVERGE, SOME GIRLS, MODERN LIFE IS WAR, KYLESA tour from 2006. think i printed 80 of these. 24"x18". three color screen print, including a metallic gold layer, on smooth card cover. printed using registration marks on the table, but chose to forgo using hinge clamps, making the actual registration of each print slightly different, and thusly unique.

first met up with the guys from connecticut's PALEHORSE in early 2006 and shortly after assembled some stuff to be printed on hoodies. did the 'witch hunt' lettering by hand, cut the aprons in to appear to be worn by the hanged men, etc.

at some point in 2007 GET IG! RECORDS used the image from the back of the hood as a 7" cover.

toward the end of 2006 i did a poster for the houston date of another tour. 18"x12", two color screen print on brown craft. can't recall now how many were printed.

some time after STRAY DOG RECORDS put out a one-sided PALEHORSE 12". the first 100 of which had a screen printed b-side that i also took care of.

another houston hardcore band, TEN CROWNS. some of whose members went on to form THE BURDEN. was always stoked to do things for these guys both because they were friends and i liked their sound, and because their bassist caleb is a really good designer and was more than capable of doing any visuals for the band himself.

I AM WOLF

I AM WOLF was a relatively short lived band from houston that had a kind of rock 'n roll/hardcore crossover sound and featured members of TEN CROWNS, MY LUCK, and GRAVE ROBBERS. in 2006 i did the layout and printing for their demo cd, their split 7" with HELL CITY KINGS, and a couple of tshirts (which i can't find now). still today i do the majority of my layouts on a photocopier with scissors and glue sticks, doing the color separations by hand on a light box before scanning the individual color layers and stacking them in photoshop. but at the time i was so far removed from anything technology based that unless i was doing the screen printing myself i didn't know what to do with the photocopied color layer pages. this 7" was the first thing i ever sent over the internet to a label in a template and print ready, with a huge thanks to my friend ben wilke. who sat patiently and scanned the pages representing the separate layers and let me point over his shoulder at his computer screen what went where and which color to make each.

more from ROT IN HELL. this time the kult of kali box set that they set to put out in 2008. the set came with four 7"s, a cd, button, patch, small print, and tshirt. all wrapped in a giant stenciled poster and then encased in a hand cut and stenciled corrugated cardboard box/sleeve. the set also included this zine style booklet with all the lyrics and recording information with screen printed covers that i'd done the art for. very limited and extremely long gone. more photos of the contents of the box are up on ENDLESS QUEST.

i shot this photo of my buddy dan's hands some time back and earlier this week turned it into a half-tone and printed these shirts for ANIMALS & CHILDREN. pretty proud of them as the only other time i tried to fuck with making a half-tone was for some shirts for WILL TO LIVE in maybe 2007 that were so butchered that in order to make out the image you basically had to be too far away to see it. needless to say, don't have one of those.

the first thing i did with WILLIAM CODY WATSON (aka PINK PRIEST, aka MALIBU WANDS, aka GREMLYNZ, ect.) was this half-frame photo i shot that was used for the cover of the pink priest "infant tape" that came out on ALBERT'S BASEMENT toward the end of 2009.

i already had a decent handful of his recordings, but was shocked by the sheer volume of releases he has out when i got this box from him in the mail the other day.

included in the box was this MALIBU WANDS cassette from NO KINGS that has a really nice letterpress cover from my GIVE UP "communion" piece.

ROT IN HELL / HORDERS tshirts

did these shirt designs to go along with the ROT IN HELL / HORDERS 'the omega suite' split 7". with the HORDERS version being basically the same, save for the RIH text being replaced with the HORDERS text. it took me longer to get the design together than i'd planned so they weren't available at the same time as the record release. being that the RIH guys are in the UK they took care of getting their shirts done. using discharge inks for a really soft look and feel. i've slacked further and haven't managed to get around to printing the HORDERS versions. soon though.

FIGHT PRETTY

this blog/site is still relatively new. still trying to find and catch up with some older stuff and still have time to sleep late and dick around and watch a lot of tv. did these 7" covers for FIGHT PRETTY's "androphobia" on their own label ORGAN DAMAGED a year or so ago. screen printed the first 50 with metallic gold ink, with the intention that the remainder be printed with the same art as standard digital output print covers. kind of lost touch and never found out what happened with the release. heard that they threw them all out at their last show, although i believe they've played since then. either way i never got a copy, but do have these scans of the covers. did a 4 panel insert as well that i can't find a physical or scanned copy of now.

also designed and screen printed these posters for their 2008 tour with SHE RIDES. think i printed around 30 or 40. 17"x11" on light weight white card. actually went on this tour and walked off when we got to new york. sorry guys.

later i did this van design for some tshirts. i think when they had them printed they went with red ink on black.

mentioned previously doing the layout for the new BURDEN record 'feral children'. really just responsible for the cover background, lettering, and assembly as hank shot the photo on the cover and peter lee shot the band photo on the back. one sided 12" with some shit spray painted on the b-side of the first 50 copies.

also did another shirt design for them that manny from NIGHT SIEGE flipped to suit white shirts and did the printing for.

just sent off the finished art/layout for the new WITHDRAWAL 7" to A389 records. not sure on the release date, but i think it's supposed to come out before the end of the summer. thought i'd go ahead and post these record release show covers for their 'unknown misery' 7" that i did back in 2009.

as well as these windbreakers i did the art for a little while back.

getting ready for the next big move. they seem to be coming with some frequency lately. in the process of packing i came across a handful of older records, posters, and tshirts that i'd done for various bands that for relevance or whatever other reason never got shared on my other personal art site. also got a new external hard drive and while transferring stuff onto it from my computer found a few original scans of art/design work i'd done for some bands/labels that i never actually got a copy of the album/shirt/etc from. once i get settled i'll dig this stuff back out of boxes to molest here.

gotten to do a bit of work with HANG THE BASTARD. just finished the layout for this tour poster with DOPEFIGHT. also recently sent off the finished layout for the re-release of the HANG THE BASTARD/ABOLITION split 7". will post photos once i get physical copies of both the tour poster and vinyl in.

did the art and layout for this CUT SHORT/BURDENS split 7" on GTR i think toward the end of 2009. not exactly sure when it actually came out, but think i got my copy toward summer of 2010. pretty sure i posted on my other site then, but thought it was relevant to post it here now as well.
